What to look for...

...when choosing a fitness club for yourself?

fitness_clubThere are a lot of gyms, fitness clubs and leisure centres all over the world. The question is: What to look for to find something that suits you? What kind of criteria to take into consideration ? Here are some tips which may help you  to make a right choice.

Location and opening hours - If you have to go through the whole city to get to your fitness club and spend more time in your car than you need for your workout, you will probably lose your motivation very quickly. Moreover, check opening hours of the fitness club, especially at the weekend and bank holidays. Short opening hours on these days mean limited access to the club, which is not good for obvious reasons: On the days off we have more time for our workout.

Equipment at the gym - Depending on what workout you would like to perform, check the number and quality of the equipment at the gym. If you want to built up your muscles, make sure they can provide their clients with a proper number of benches and check how heavy the heaviest weights ( dumbbells, weight plates) are. If you want to join a gym to lose some body fat, check how many cardio machines (treadmills, cross trainers, bicycles, rowing machines) they have and whether they are in a good condition.

Number of members - Judging by experience, I would say that more and more people using the services of fitness clubs are not satisfied with the service they get. Some clubs do not care about comfort of their members, trying to bring to the club as many members as possible: At the expense of quality, they choose quantity to raise their income. To avoid disappointment, before buying a membership at the fitness club, go to the club a few times, in the hours when you wish to perform your workout and check how many people are there. Finding out that every time you come the club is full of people and a lot of them are waiting for  machines or benches, you can be sure that this club is overcrowded and it makes no sense to join it.

Staff - During your visit to the club try to talk to the staff (receptionists, cleaners, instructors) and check if  they are kind. A good atmosphere at the club is very important: nice people greeting you from the threshold give you a good feedback, thanks to which you feel better during your workout and get motivated to work without feeling uncomfortable or embarrassed.

Qualified and experienced fitness instructors and personal trainers - Fitness instructors and personal trainers should be not only kind but also well- qualified and experienced, in other words:  They should be  professional and competent because in this kind of job there is no place for mistakes. People entrust their health to  their hands so they need to be fully- qualified professionals.

Cleanliness - Check if the machines at the gym as well as the floor in a changing room, lockers, showers, toilets are clean. Make sure there is  paper and fluid for disinfection at the gym to wipe a machine or bench after use. Dirty fitness club is a serious hazard for your health as  hundreds of people scroll through a busy club every day and some of them can transmit bacteria or viruses to others on the premises. Needless to say,  it is easy to catch it if the club is not clean.

Classes - Check classes’ timetable, learn what the classes are taught and how many people attend  them. A diversity of a class means a diversity of your workout, which can help you to raise your motivation and have a good time in a group of people.
